We Want Electricity - A Protest by Bahria Town Lahore Residents

Bahria Town Lahore's residents are also facing load shedding of electricity from last three days. The situation went worst from yesterday. A protest was launched today on main entrance of Executive Lodges (opposite of Malik Riaz Hussain residence) and also on Trafalgar Square, Safari Villas, Lahore.

The management has issued a circular which says that it is due to a technical fault in the generator which produces electricity during load shedding schedule.
It is also promised that every thing will become into routine till June 19, 2012 evening.

Some residents have an opinion that this load shedding, protest, technical fault and announcement of Bahria Town management by circular are planted so that it should come on record that Bahria Town has its own generator's arrangement which produces electricity and it is not taking any wrong advantage.

No load shedding in Bahria Town - Can it DHA will follow example

I recently visited Bahria Town, Lahore and was happy to know that there is no load shedding there which is a big relief for the residents and visitors. I am interested to know whether Bahria Town has set up it's own power generating plant or it is buying electricity from one of Independent Power Plants set up in our country. I believe other big Residential Socities like DHA will follow Bahria Town example in future if load shedding continues in the country.

visitor replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 01:33 PM PST

That is because
bahria bribe and steal which dha does not. More over you can give stollen electricity to few hundred houses but dha has tens or thousands of houses.

Ejaz Ahmad replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 02:40 PM PST

Visitor,it can't be true and is unbelievable what you wrote about
Bahria stealing electricity. I think Bahria has either set up it's own power generating plant or it is buying electricity from one or more of IPPs and this possibilities should be looked into by DHA and other big Residential Societies to save residents from load shedding which getting worst ever year.

Khan replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 02:56 PM PST
Bahria Town is not stealing the electricity and has its own arrangement to produce electricity.

Amir replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 03:22 PM PST

In the start (2005-2006)
Bahria Town Lahore started charging flat rate of Rs.7 per unit and then increased the rates to Rs.9 per unit and provided generator back up during load shedding hours. The quality of power through generators was not satisfactory as tripping was very common. Now Bahria Town Lahore has its own dedicated grid station which provides electricity without any problem.

I appreciate Bahria Town Lahore for managing the quality life for its members.

zahid replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 03:40 PM PST

They are having owns generators system to pervade the non stop power

Ali Abbas replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 03:49 PM PST
dha can also do this for its resident but its difficult. in bahria situation it is not that difficult as population is very low in bahria. defence is a city in a city

visitor replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 04:34 PM PST

hamari piari qaum bohat hi bholi hai. the generators are just show pieces & cannot take the load of full bt. the grid is hooked to same system as other public system. but due to bribe to proper authorities it is always fed with mws needed for
bahria.

that is defined as stealing by paying rishwat to the corrupt authorities, politicians & most corrupt media to keep them quite on such issues. the issue came up in some sections of media some time back but after taking their 'fee' they kept quite. they are all fed very well by malik riaz.

hamari bholi quam issi liay sab dunia se peeche hai. someone shud think whether the namaz in the stolen electricity light in bt is halal or haram. it is very funny. just keep quite & hush up.

yeh qaum bohat zarori kaam se so rahi hai.

zaheer replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 05:30 PM PST

Even in Rawalpindi all phases of Bahria are load shedding free.

BT Lahore plot owner replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 06:41 PM PST

yes it is a fact that BT is bribing the Wapda officials. when concern is raised by other societies and stays are taken then load shedding starts for a few weeks then it gets batter.

naseem lahore replied on Saturday, April 28, 2012 10:53 PM PST

@visitor,if Bahria steals, then why DHA rawalpindi-islamabad is shaking hands with BAHRIA TOWN? I will say, please do not misguide people.

Nadeem replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 01:32 AM PST

Bahria cannot produce electricity on its own. Power generation units are installed at the dams which produce electricity from water, then WAPDA or PEPCO or other companies distribute. Nuclear power and wind power are not widely used in Pakistan. Bahria definitely does not have nuclear or wind power generation units. Then how come bahria produce electricity? Of course, it seems Bahria bribe power companies (Wapda, PEPCO etc.) malik riaz must have high links with politicians and then corrupt bureaucracy is always ready to get sale. No thoughts that one day a man will die and have to answer to ALLAH.

D replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 03:06 AM PST

Mr visitor u got any proves of this bribe thing? i know something abt tht how they gets this, but lets hear this bribery and corruption thing from u.
SOMETIMES we just say without thinking and i think this the case tht u r misguiding us, or u can also prove me wrong, GIVE DETAILS PLZ.
TUHMAT LAGANA Gunnah hai.

Hussain Kaisrani replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 11:15 AM PST

It is a fact that Bahria Town Lahore is load shedding free housing project. We used to face electricity problems in the past even though Bahria Town (specially for Safari Villas) Lahore has arrangements of heavy duty generators. As Amir has rightly said that these generators were not helpful in 2006 though Bahria Town Lahore was not much populated in those days.
Bahria Town was given electricity as per village quota and the situation went worst in the summer. We had a meeting with Malik Riaz Hussain Sahib, Chairman Bahria Town for resolving the electricity issue as we were paying higher rates and were not getting proper voltage of electricity. He promised to solve the issue of electricity and its rate within six months.
Bahria Town Lahore managed to have its grid station on such a place where two different high transmission lines are passing through. I am not a technical person but have been told that Bahria Town is taking the advantage of these two main lines. The rates of electricity in Bahria Town are now on normal level. The detail of our meeting with Malik Sahib and electricity rates was also provided on this page.
I am not aware of any bribe being paid by Bahria Town but if only bribe could solve the problem then why it did not help in the start. Once Malik Sahib himself told us that Bahria Town has made a deal with WAPDA that it will pay lump sump amount of electricity usage recorded on grid meter. WAPDA will not suffer for any electricity theft or line losses. Also WAPDA does not need to appoint any staff in Bahria Town other than grid station. It is also a great advantage and saving for WAPDA. And it should also be kept in mind that Bahria Town paid all the cost of installing grid station.

visitor replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 01:13 PM PST

so that is the truth; a grid station taking electricity from two main lines without bribe of course because bahria town residents are preferred citizens of pakistan. right? while other minor citizens of pakistan and industries have to suffer from 16 to 20 hours loadsheding & they cannot take same advantage given to grid serving them. that is only because malik riaz knows the karishma of money. all these beuarucrates, politicians, including zardari & shahbaz sharif are in his pocket. all of them get 'gifts' from him & travel in his air planes. even the chief justice of this country is helpless against him because malik riaz can buy 'other judges'. all from patwari to president is in his pocket.

but this is temporary. when the things turn around malik riaz will either flee the country or will be jailed & these preferred citizens of bahria will also enjoy the equal opportunity loadshedding.

JOHAR (SAUDI ARABIA) replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 01:36 PM PST

@ Visitor

Very True.We need to be fair in all walks of life.

gauhar replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 02:39 PM PST

let we discuss other differences of Bahria town, bahria is safe &secure because malik riaz gives bribe to relevent security agencies, bahria is neat & clean(like europe) because they give bribe to sweepers & so on.....

Amir replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 05:00 PM PST

Dear visitor: Respectfully, I beg to disagree with your sentence.

"hamari piari qaum bohat hi bholi hai."

I will even respect your right of opinion even if it is against me. The reason why our nation is lagging behind is not "Bholi Bhali" but the negative thinking. If we see somebody/entity doing well then because of our -ve mindset we try to find out something wrong in it. When I see somebody doing well I appreciate and try to learn how he is doing a particular thing so good. The same I inculcate in the head of my son daily at night as bed time story and I do ask him what positive thing he has learnt today. As a result He (age 12)does stock exchange trading, deals in prize bonds and always stands either first or second in his class and also know driving and computer more than me. Because, I have only exposed him to positive things which he applies in his daily life. I hope tonight before going to sleep you will ask from yourself what positive thing you have learnt and applied today. Learning is a process which continues til the end of our life. Best Regards

mac replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 05:21 PM PST

I don't think so bahria mgt is bribing anyone because it is pretty evident and advertised they are trying to provide and maintain load shedding free society. I believe instead of criticizing BT, we should take it as learning and be implemented in other places. At least some one is doing something noticeable.

Apart from my comments Mr. Hussain Kaisrani has given a very transparent brief per his understanding & knowledge.

visitor replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 05:53 PM PST

mr guhar

u r relating two different things. if u keep your house or business or scheme clean & secure that does not give u a clean chit about using corrupt & unjust means in other matters.

mr amir

appreciate your remarks. its very good & productive to have overall +ve attitude about various matters of life. however do not teach your son to be mahatma gandhi, otherwise he will be vulnerbale to be screwed by the criminals & ill-intentioned every single day of his life. teach him to be +ve about +ve things and -ve about -ve things. tell him its fine, in fact necessary to call a spade a spade, and very important to point out & take stand against evil. do not tell him to seek +ve aspects of evil when faced with the same in life.

mr mac

the point here is very simple. no one is arguing the +ves of bahria town. the only argument here is there is absolutely no provision in the load shedding management that allows u to 'legally' pay extra & get power all the time through public resources or public pool of resources. if bahria backup is not supported by their generators as mentioned by Mr Hussain Kaisrani & they r taking 24 hours power supply out of public resources/pool which is meant to be equally used for all areas, then that is 100% supported by corruption & illegal under the table arrangements.

please keep in mind many patients die in public and private hospitals each day during the load shedding. some times essential surgeries r performed under lights of mobile phones, if during loadshedding the backup generator also goes down.

this hush up and keep quite thing is the very basis of our unjust system. its got nothing to do with thinking +ve or -ve.

in our country if somewhere people r waiting in a queue for hours & someone with links, sifarish or rishwat bypasses the line usually most of the people waiting in the queue for hours (think +ve), just keep quite & accept it as a norm. that mindset is the real problem here. in developed countries people will scare the shit out of officials doing or allowing this unjust act. we are where we are, because of our complacent mindset not because we think -ve.

as I said earlier

yeh qaum bohat zarori kaam se so rahi hai

enough said.

Noble, KSA replied on Sunday, April 29, 2012 09:22 PM PST

Gents I am an electrical engineer myself, I would like to add the following;
1- that grid station is not a genrator this where WAPDA conrols on/off electricity for load shedding. BT bribes the grid station staff and then no load shedding. In the previous months when there was a strict rule and shortage was huge in BT Pindi there was a load shedding.

2- BT has no right to charge extra from the residents every month for electricity since it is not paying more rather buying electricilty at bulk at cheaper price. They are not adding any value or service.

Anyways this known to everybody there and people are paying it, Therefore it is a fact of life. If I do not want to become part of this theft should not deal with BT as simple as that.

Nadeem replied on Monday, April 30, 2012 05:29 AM PST

@ Noble, KSA... u r right that Grid station does not produce electricity. Everyone in this thread is talking about Grid Station... Grid Station... Excuse me, Grid Station does not produce electricity. As I said before, electricity is ONLY produce at the dams not Grid Station, then wapda or Pepco then distribute that electricity. Grid station reduce the high voltage (thousand of voltage) to low voltage (so that your TV and AC can work) - no electricity production.

Salaam Asif Mustafa,

Welcome to Bahria Town Lahore.

I am afraid that you will not have option of 8 Marla plots in Bahria Town Sector C. Bahria Town Sector C (proper) has 2 Kanal, 1 Kanal and 10 marla plots.
I am providing you information about 8 Marla homes in Safari Villas, Sector B, Bahria Town Lahore.

Your information of hidden charges about utility Bills is not correct. Bahria Town is charging Rs.1,500/= per month in which some facilities are provided which also include:
* Security
* Water Bill

Telephone and Gas bills are issued directly by their companies. Bahria Town has no concern with these bills. Electricity charges are almost same as we have in Lahore city.

The School and life in Bahria Town Lahore

AZHAR ALI

Dear All
I am an overseas Pakistani and I am coming back in July next year. I have planned to live in Bahria town purely for it's security. I checked schools in Bahria but could find only one. Can somebody guide me about the standard of the school, as my kids would be going to class 8 & 7 and they both can't read or write Urdu at all, or is there any way they can avoid Urdu as a subject altogether.
Please I need your help and suggestions. I chose Bahria because of it's security only, I am not from Lahore but I want to settle down here
Kindly advice. Thanks to all of you in advance.

Urdu and Pakistan Studies are exempt for student who have foreign nationality in most schools like beaconhouse.

Hussain Kaisrani replied on Monday, December 19, 2011 08:31 PM PST

Welcome to Pakistan Mazhar Sahib.

You are right that there is only one school in Bahria Town (Bahria Town School) Lahore. It is a good school and many people like me are satisfied with it though some people in Bahria Town are not satisfied with the standard. Unlike UK & USA, parent's/home role in Pakistan is more important than teacher/school in the success of kids.

Bahria Town school offers alternatives (Easu Urdu) for overseas students who are not at home with Urdu. You may contact school office on phone number 00924235341641 or 00924235341643 to confirm it.

Have you considered Askari 10 or 11 in Lahore. I also live outside Pakistan so I am not sure but I was made to understand during my last visit that security in these two housing schemes is also good. You will get a few very good schools near these societies as well.

If there is any reason for not selecting Askari 10/11, please do share since I am also considering to relocate to Lahore and was thinking to get a house in Askari 10.

As long as GCE O level is taken from Pakistan, Urdu and Pak studies are not exempted. refer to http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/. I would also recommend Askari because of its security and priximity to best schools like BHSS and city. A friend of mine from Dubai has family in Askari and they are extremely satisfied with the security and schools are nearby as well. Bahria is good too, but you will have to have a driver + car for schooling if in case u did not choose the school is Bahria.

Quality and standard of daily life necessities (Schools/shopping Malls) are much better around the area of ASKARI-10 area.

The price of 10 marla house at Bahria Town sector-c is about 60-70 lac (20 lac plot price + 40~50 lac construction cost) while in Askari-10 the house price is over 110 lac with poor construction.

Gauhar replied on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 02:56 PM PST

certainly Askari-10 was secure in past, but robberies & decoities in askari-10 is not a news now a days.as far as schooling in askari-10 is concern, you will have to have a driver for children for school also.

Aamir replied on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 09:25 PM PST

If your considerations are Education of children and security then consider Paragon City where, LGS,LACAS at present and City School, Beacon house, Islamic school in future will be at 5 minutes walking distance, while living at a secure place.

A request for guidance to visit France and Switzerland

Dear All,
Salaam,
I am planning for a family trip (2 adult and 2 kids of age 9 and 6) to Norway, Sweden, Paris and Switzerland from London from September 14. The arrangements for Norway and Sweden has been made. But traveling to Paris, Switzerland (or any other country) and then to London is not being finalized due to insufficient information. I will be obliged if some friend can provide guidance/tips for travelling and stay in these countries.

Hi,
I've been to all these countries. The best way would be to finish your norway, sweden journey and then go to italy instead of france. and from italy go to switzerland.

Hussain sb
Best would be to travel by train. If you had booked earlier then Easy Jet (www.easyjet.com) would be a economical way too. But its rather late for that.

Stick to the trains. Get the ticket from station. Scenic trains in French and Swiss Alps are damn expensive and that means spending lots of cash to get to places like Chemonix (base of mont black) or Zermit (base of meterhorn). It costs about 70 Euros for single train ticket from Geneva to Chemonix. Geneva to Interlaken city is about 60 Euros one way.

Getting a Euro rail pass for three countries would also be a good idea. That would be even economical.

Booking.com is a good web site to look for decent but economical hotels. Although another much cheaper alternative way (albeit an unusual one) would to buy a family tent for about a 100 Euros. And camp at your destination. All cities in Swiss and France have a camping site accessable from train/buss station. Costs about 20 Euros per night to pitch ur tent and all camping sites have clean washrooms and showers. Some of them (like ABC site in INterlaken city) even have anti-rooms with TV and refrigrators also.

When I was backpacking through Europe, I did this (was with friends) and saw a lot of families doing the same which included many Indian families also. Its a much cheaper alternate to hotels.

Of course this is not suitable for all types of families and temperaments. Booking.com would be the other alternative to find a hotel.

Have fun in Alps!
;)

Dear Hussain sb,

Sir make sure that your question is precise. If you want to go to Paris you have four good options, first is Ryan air, the cheapest one, the second best option is through rail eurostar and the third is euroline bus and fourth is covoiturage mean you can share car with some one.On internet you can find covoiturage.com.
In most of the europe étap hotel is best option as the rent start from 30 euros for a couple and if you want to book youth hostel hihostel.com is another best option and you can find a separate room around 40 to 50 euros. Formula one is another nice option but the disadvantage it is alway away from the city. The other option is bed and breakfast hotel is also nice one. From paris you can go to switzerland, in interlaken Bonigen is a nice place to stay. But I will recommend you the eurorail pass and make an advance booking from uk because this is cheap one. you can get discount while visting tourist place in switzeland on this pass. you can search eurorail pass. you question does not show what sort of information do you want. Presently I am living in France and I have visited almost all the europe for my doctorate reseach. you can share any other query. Wish you best of luck and in french Bon voyage. Monseiur damme. Merci

Advise replied on Thursday, September 1, 2011 04:09 PM PST

It is very easy to travel from Paris to any where in Switzerland.
At times, last minute plane tickets can be cheaper than train but it may not suit your schedule.
Therefore, i advise to buy train journey.
Swiss train company offer various type of tickets incl. day ticket for all Switzerland and also cheap holiday packages.
Use SBB.ch and you can buy complete package from Paris to Switzerland and back to UK.

BTW.. I live in Bahria Lahore and i believe you also live in Bahria!

Dear Brothers, thanks for your guidance though I am still under process of planning so my questions are not very clear.
I have understood the process of travelling from London to Norway. It was very cheap to travel with Ryan Air so I have finalized my booking. I can do the same from Norway to Paris. I am stuck here. How to manage booking of cheap hotels as it is not a good idea to spend much money for spending only nights.

@Fahad, I will be needing further guidance from you. I will be obliged if you can email me your email / phone contact on KAISRANI@GMAIL.COM

@Advise, Yes! I am a resident of Safari Villas,
Bahria Town Lahore but I am in London nowadays. Thanks for your guidance.

Shahzad replied on Thursday, September 1, 2011 10:51 PM PST

Try hostelworld.com for cheap hotels and hostels. ryan air is the cheapest available option but keep in your mind that ryanair usually operates at the airports that are far away from cities.

I visited Italy, Switzerland, and France last year. Landed in Rome and then took trains to all cities of Italy, to Zurich, and from Zurich to Paris. The trains were excellent. As far hotels are concerned, I used www.booking.com to book hotels in all cities across Italy, Zurich, and Paris...bargain details and no issues.

I don't know how long you will be in Europe, but you have a VERY busy agenda. Sounds exhausting. I prefer to stay in only 1 or 2 places and see them in depth.
